Overview
Smackdown is a local couch PvP game I’ve created to play with colleagues during breaks at the Enversed Studios office, packed full of characters, environments and other references to actual projects we worked on.
The game is entirely made within Unreal Engine, made to have its gameplay and style resemble the official “Super Smash Bros.” series games as closely as possible.
The game can be played with up to four people – but not solo – either in free-for-all format or in teams. Knock your opponent(s) off the battlefield to win.
Key features
Polished gameplay
Gameplay resembles the official Super Smash Bros. titles as accurately as possible, all within Unreal Engine.
Playable characters
Players can choose from a large selection of varied characters, each with their own unique moveset and references to other projects.
Diverse stages
Different stages/maps are available for players to fight on, most of which referencing other past projects.
References
Since Smackdown’s target audience consists entirely of my colleagues at Enversed Studios the game is filled to the brim with stupid insider jokes and references to other projects we worked on.
- Players can fight on the residential street from Brabant Water where the entire environment will periodically flood due to busted water pipes.
- BHVR characters wield an extinguisher as a sword and their movement ability is to use our VR teleportation module.
- My Quartz research appears as a playable stage where various hazards appear to the beat of the background music.
- We use the same human character models for many of our projects, so different versions of “Eric” make up half of Smackdown’s character roster.
