WHO AM I?

I’m Rick van Schijndel, a game developer & programmer based in the Netherlands with decades of experience in 3D and 2D projects.

Most of my professional experience revolves around education and VR, but I’ve also worked on several varied personal projects over the years that explore different gameplay aspects and technical challenges.

Programming experience

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science with a strong foundation in software development and system design. I write clean, modular, and maintainable code, adapting easily to different languages and game engines.

Multi-platform support

Professional experience developing projects for mobile platforms, including Android-based VR devices such as Meta Quest.
Familiar with cross-platform deployment and optimizing performance.

Full pipeline involvement

Extensive experience developing solo projects where I handle all aspects of development, from gameplay programming to implementing art and audio while maintaining attention to detail.

Agile workflow

Always working in Agile development workflows to deliver features efficiently.
I’m no stranger to progress tracking, communicating clearly and peer reviews.

Bio

From a young age I’ve been interested in development and modding of videogames, both as a hobby and an eventual career path.
Starting with Game Maker and RPG Maker, I eventually got to try out Unity and the Unreal Development Kit for modding games like Chivalry: Medieval Warfare.

Having originally studied web development at ROC (now Yonder), I later did a deeper dive into software engineering during my studies at Fontys University where I specialized in programming and research-based approaches; finding the right tool for the job per project.

I’ve always been passionate about videogames and believe even now they’re a highly underrated medium for storytelling, but also underutilized in education and training.

While having used many different tools, engines and programming languages over the years, the bulk of my showcased projects have been created in Unreal Engine.

As someone who uses this engine both professionally and for personal (solo) projects I’ve become experienced at not only its programming side; lighting, rigging, animation, shaders, level design and even sound design are included too.
